What is the difference between Ciba Vision Night and Day contacts and Air Optix night and Day?

I cannot wear the new Air Optix Night and Day that my eye doctor prescribed for me. Before these I wore the Night and Day monthly that you sleep in. They were very comfortable and didn’t bother me at all. But these new contacts are horribly uncomfortable and my eyes get blurry/gummy after a few hours. The prescription is exactly the same as before. My doc said that these new contacts are exactly the same but they obviously are not. She said just the name changed. Can you give me something that will back me up, some info so I can tell her she just might be wrong???

According to CIBA, looks like both are the same material but with something extra that’s supposed to aid in comfort. I never had any problems with it myself but the next time I see the Ciba Rep at work, I’ll ask her.

Both AIR OPTIX® NIGHT & DAY® AQUA contact lenses and original NIGHT & DAY® contact lenses are made of the same material — lotrafilcon A silicone hydrogel. However, AIR OPTIX® NIGHT & DAY® AQUA lenses provide additional benefits, like the AQUA Moisture System and significantly improved insertion comfort. The AQUA Moisture System helps lenses start and stay comfortable with a unique moisture agent that binds with the lens surface to create a silky layer for initial comfort.
