Contact lens wearers – no rub solutions?
I recently switched from daily wear contacts to monthly disposables. Even though I used no rub solution before, I had to rub (20 seconds on each side) because those solutions are typically meant for lenses replaced in 30 days or less. I also did the enzymatic cleaning once a week to remove protein. My doctor kept pushing me to get disposables, and I finally gave in. I wear Focus monthlys. But since I’m used to daily wear (which last for 6 mons – a year), I’m used to rubbing my lens daily instead of just rinsing them and storing them. I use the Opti-free no rub solution. But I tried just rinsing and my lens felt dirty – I’ve been having trouble with contacts anyway (I think there could be something goin on wiht my eyes – IU have naturally dry eyes which seem to be getting drier), but it just felt like something was on my lensea and they didn’t go in right. once I rubbed, they felt better and Ihaven’t had trouble today. Is it ok to rub them? If you have disposables, what is your routine?
Hmm, I’ve never heard of Solo. I’ll have to keep an eye out for it.

I use Bausch & Lombs solution & I usually don’t have to rub.
I wear disposables too.
I use Complete solution.
After a days use, I put them in the lens container. After a night in the container I clean them with the solution and then put them in.
The lens I use is Acuvue Oasys. The are a good brand.
I have the same trouble as you do. I do use the opti free and I do rub the lenses for a bit too. It is not that you can’t rub them, it is just that the surfactant in it works just with the friction of the solution being squirted on the lense. Some people do have better cleaning with them being rubbed a little. I did switch to a 30 day lense and I do enzyme them half way through becuase I have dryness issues and the protein deposits can make that worse. Unfortunately the lenses I need do not come in a 2 week version or I would do that instead. I think you will be ok rubbing them before you store them. We have patients that we have do that sometimes as well. So, you are ok!
I also wear monthly disposables, and use Solo Care solution. With Solo, you have the option of rubbing or just rinsing. There’s also a built in protein remover. Hope this helps.
The “no rub” instructions include rinsing with a stream of solution for 10 seconds a side. That would pretty much empty the bottle.
I tell all my patients to ignore the “no rub” label and to rub and rinse the lenses every night after removal. The lenses will be much cleaner, feel better and deliver better vision. You can do no harm in rubbing a lens daily.
