How many days can you wear a Daily Disposal Contact Lens?

I have a pack of J+J Oasys (misspelled on purpose) daily disposable contact lenses. They are ultra comfortable. I don’t wear contacts very often, but when I do, I wear them for a couple of consecutive days. They are still more comfortable than the 2week lenses I’ve used previous.

That means that I wear them for about 6 hours a day, take them out, then wear them a day or two later. I get about 4-6 uses out of them and usually toss them after a week.

I use TONS of solution between wears. The contact lenses get a half hour soak in solution after I take them out, then they get fresh solution before they get stored overnight. If I don’t wear them for a day or two, I make a habbit of changing the solution. Sometimes the lenses get 3-4 changes of solution before they hit my eyes again.

My eyes are much healthier with these contacts even with my replacement schedule. If the lenses are still very comfortable when I toss them even after multiple wears,—> cont…
If my eyes are still healthy and the lenses still comfortable when I toss them, I would think that I’m not ‘overextending’ wearing the lenses and that there is not very much build up on the lenses by the time that I get rid of them.

I’ve worn contacts in the past and have had dry itchy eyes even when wearing fresh lenses.

With mass production, and prices coming down, I’m starting to wonder if there is really that much difference in construction between a daily and 2 week lenses. Do they pop out of the same mold, and repackage them in different boxes.

In any case, IF my eyes stay healthy, then this will be a practice that I like to continue, asides from being economical, I feel guilty about all the plastic I create from all the little packaging. It’s a small part for the environment that I’ll make if it doesn’t make me go blind.
And yes I do realize that regardless of solution, buildup always happens.

I usually toss the lenses BEFORE there are any issues with dryness or itching.

Even when I toss the lenses they still feel very comfortable which means that they don’t have too much build up and are still in the ‘safe’ zone.

Daily disposables can usually be worn for more than one day. The trick is to pay attention to the lenses and make sure that they aren’t dirty, scratched, ripped, etc., before putting them back in your eyes. Using tons of solution doesn’t clean everything off of the lens, by the way. You DO have to toss them.

If you feel any discomfort, toss ‘em. Pay attention to what you do while they’re in your eyes–if a lot of gunk is hitting your eyes (high air pollution day, very windy with lots of dust, etc.), you want to toss that pair. If you wear them to the point where you’re getting blurred vision or feeling discomfort, you’re risking damage to your eyes. Doing this once or twice is probably going to work out fine, but figure out when that point is and toss them *before* it happens.

Basically, disposables are just less hardy. They’re made a cheaper material, so they won’t last all that long. Careful care will make them last longer. What works for one person won’t work for another, usually because they’re more/less rough on their contacts. Your doctor and the companies are going to be ultra careful about the schedule they give you.

Keep in mind that if you use them for more than a day regularly and something does go wrong, you’re basically on your own for getting the problem fixed–the company won’t be liable in any way. It’ll be you and your health insurance picking up the bill.

daily disposable lenses are only supposed to be used once then thrown away, they’re not designed to be used again.you could cause an infection wearing them more than once regardless if you use solution or not.Daily lenses are quite cheap, the ones from specsavers are good… £26 for 30 days and they come in their own separate bubble with solution in them,I wear monthly lenses and they’re very reasonable too.I would advise that you wear the lenses only once then dispose of them,i dont think your optician would be very happy if he/she found out you were doing this with your lenses.

  4. It is just the convenience of not having to carry solutions when traveling or staying out overnight that the Daily’s were designed for. Or not having to buy cleaning solutions at all if you treat them like a daily lens.

But , if you disinfect them and take care of them like a 2 week lens , you can do it.

    They are the same lens.

All the contact companies do the same thing. It is their 2 week disposable that is packaged for use as Daily wear lenses also.

The sales reps from all those companies have told me that face to face in my office. I think they would know.

They are packaged as a daily wear lens for the convenience, not because they are different.
